Henan University of Animal Husbandry and Economics (HUAHE) was first founded in 1957. It is a provincial public undergraduate university approved by the Education Ministry and administrated by Henan Provincial Government. It is a pilot college of transformation development of undergraduate institutions.It is located in Zhengzhou, the capital of Henan, in central China, with a superior geographic location, profound humanities and beautiful natural environment.

HUAHE is formed by merging two colleges, namelyZhengzhou College of Animal Husbandry Engineering and Henan Business College. Along the 60 years of history, the university develops under the guidance of its motto of ‘Rigorousand Practical, Knowledgeable andEfficient’ and education orientation of ‘Regional, Professional, Open and Applying’. As a result, it has created a clear development path, along which industrial production, school learning and scientific research are well integrated and the university, local industries and students actively interact with each other. Now it enjoys a pretty good reputation in the local area. We receive public praises like ‘advanced in education reform’, ‘renowned school-owned enterprise’, ‘outstanding graduates’，‘down to earth’ and ‘high employment rate’. We have produced for the society approximately 300,000 high-quality talents with specialized skills and aptitudes. Our achievements have also won full recognitions of the government.

The university takes an area of over 1,4 million square meters with 3 different campuses, namely ‘Longzi Hu’, ‘Yingcai’ and ‘Beilin’. It also has a Science & Education Demonstration Center and a school-owned enterprise---The Hairun Company. It has an overall construction area of around 1.05 million square meters, and sufficient education and scientific research equipments worth 185 million RMB. The university library has a collection of 2.47 million books, 1,216 periodicals and 15 database in Chinese and other languages. There are 76 basic or professional laboratories, 8 provincial engineering research centers, 2 provincial graduates’ entrepreneurship practice bases and 200 off-campus practice bases.

Now there are altogether 33,000 full-time students studying in 25 different teaching departments, 1 demonstrating Software Engineering School, 1 Adult Education School and 1 International Education School. It covers all the major disciplines, including agriculture, technology, management, economics, science, law and art，among which Animal Nutrition and Animal Food Science is a Provincial Key Discipline. There are 40 degree programs and 64 diploma programs, 2 of which are State-Level Teaching Reform Pilot Programs, 4 are Provincial Comprehensive Reform Pilot programs and 13 are Provincial Feature Programs.

HUAHE vigorously implement the strategy of Strengthening Schools with Talents and continuously optimizing its faculty structure. Now there are over 1700 staff members in total, among whom 1120 have obtained a doctor or master degree , 900 are Double-Professionally-Titled teachers, 7 are entitled to State Special Allowance, 2 are enlisted candidates in the ‘Millions of Talents Projects”, 2 are National Distinguished Teachers, 7 are Provincial Distinguished teachers, 6 are Province-administrated Distinguished Experts, 11 are Provincial Excellent Teachers, over 60 are Province Backbone Teachers and 67 are technical and academic leaders of programs of national, provincial or departmental level. The university focuses on cultivating Expert Teachers who can not only teach in classrooms, but also conduct research programs and offer service in actual industrial production. So we have a teaching body led by a group of national distinguished teachers and experts.

HUAHE never stops on the path of reform in its education and teaching and constantly innovates its talent-cultivation mode.The university centers on education, and takes it as top priority to improve education quality. We endeavor to create new education patterns and methods and emphasize on the construction and development of specialties, courses, teaching material and teaching teams. Some of our new education patterns, like “2+1”, “Double Circulation” and “3-2-4”, have won more than one national awards. We have 2 state-level and 7 province-level teaching teams, and 6 state-level and 21 province-level quality courses, and 1 state-level quality textbook. 35 other textbooks are included in the National 11^thFive-Year Plan. The university has some special office to conduct specialized educational and scientific research and innovation, like Provincial and Departmental Technical Research Center, Higher Education Research Center and Enterprise Development Research Center.

The university establishes extensive scientific research platforms to continuously improve the level of scientific and technical innovation. We have 11 provincial R&D platforms, 9 municipal R&D platforms and 5 provincial innovative scientific and technical teams. We have established think tanks such as Rural Revitalization and Targeted Poverty Alleviation Research Institute, and we have also set up social research platforms such as Calligraphy and Painting Art Research Center, Henan Enterprise Development Research Institute and Law Research Institute. We have a Henan Hairun Animal Husbandry-Industry-Commerce Creation Center and a Henan All-Media Science Communication Center. It is the director unit of Henan Animal Husbandry Industry Technology Innovation Alliance, the executive director unit of the National Animal Husbandry Science and Technology Innovation Alliance, the deputy director unit of Henan Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medical Association, and the executive director unit of Henan Intellectual Property Research Association. In recent years, we have presided over 187 projects of provincial level or above, undertook 13 national or provincial natural science and social science funds, 5 humanities and social science projects of the Education Ministry. We have won 32 awards for scientific research achievements. We have been authorized 50 national invention patents, and have published 4916 academic papers, including 1529 Core Journals, more than 100 are included by SCI, EI, CSSCI, and we have published 689 books and textbooks.

We strive to promote the integration of industry-education cooperation and acquire development in serving the society. Aiming at the joint of its subject advantages and local needs, the university has established a "Cooperative Development Alliance" with over 100 organizations including not only government bodies but also well-known enterprises, scientific research institutes and trade associations. As a result, a number of research cooperation platforms are established, such as "Joint Laboratory of China-Malaysia Muslim Food ", "High-grade Beef Thawing and Fresh-keeping Technique Research Center", "Henan Agriculture and Finance Research Center". "Residents’ Financial Literacy Research and Education Center", "Meat Product Research Institute". We have jointly established several secondary colleges with local enterprises, including Chuying Agriculture and Animal Husbandry College, Fengyuan Agriculture and Animal Husbandry College, Guang'an Agriculture and Animal Husbandry College and York-Xiji College. We have also developed a number of special courses to cater for the needs of local enterprises. Some teachers even actually participate in the operation of certain enterprises and help them profit.

We actively expand our vision and further promotes international exchanges and cooperation. We have established cooperative relationship with 54 universities and research institutes from 27 countries and regions such as the United States, Australia and Ireland. We have one Sino-foreign joint education cooperation program and two undergraduate courses introduction programs. There are two international scientific research cooperation platforms, namely ‘Animal Feed Resources Innovative Utilization Workshop’ and ‘International Joint Laboratory for Henan Ruminant Nutrition and Animal Feed Resources Development’, and one national and regional research center, Ireland Research Center.
